tax forms are no joke

A Middletown, Ohio tax official was suspended from her job because she tried to insert some humor in the local income tax forms:

In a description of taxable income, Stubbs wrote: “Cities may choose to exclude these from tax, but we do not; put another way, if we can tax it, we will.” In a section on deducting losses that refers to self-employment, she wrote: “Free advice: If you don’t have a profit in a five-year period, you might want to consider another line of work.”

Link.

The City did not appreciate the humor, and spent $5,500 sending out new forms. I don’t know, I think anything as dreary as filling out a tax form could stand a little lightening up.
