The Gloves are off: Wayne County EDC Showdown
Holbrook spent more on relocation expenses (about $35,000 virtually tax-free) than the vast majority of Wayne County residents make in an entire year. Mr. Holbrook spent more on his desk than the tuition to attend IU East or Ivy Tech for a year. Every Wayne County resident is paying for that desk and relocation. Twenty percent (20 percent) of the county tax deducted from your paycheck every pay period is used to fund the EDC.The board exists solely to foster economic development while protecting our investment. Regrettably, the board has turned into a glad-handing, cheerleading service for Mr. Holbrook. Not only has the board failed to fulfill its duties, it recently has rewarded Mr. Holbrook with a raise and a bonus in its “put up a united front” and “circle the wagons” mentality. Taxpayers can judge for themselves whether the board has acted responsibly. This taxpayer says no; they must go. Link.
County commissioner Mary Heyob said she was shocked in December when the board of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County in December gave its embattled president a vote of confidence.
“I almost fell off my chair when it was read,” she said Thursday of the resolution backing Don Holbrook. “I couldn’t believe it.”

I think all would agree that the reporting on my personal background has been one-sided. I have chosen not to address the concerns publicly because the EDC Board, my employer, is fully aware of every question raised, and has to this point had no concerns with any of it. I understand the basic tenet of small-town journalism — scandal sells. As William Randolph Hearst said, “You bring me the pictures, and I’ll bring you the war.” He sold a few newspapers that way, I believe.
I call upon my employer, the EDC board, to resist the Wayne County Commissioners’ power play and make their decision regarding my future based on facts rather than conjecture. It’s time to say “enough” to bullying and yellow journalism. Link.

You are supposibly an educated lawyer. if you had all the facts in this case you would understand the misuse of power for political and direct and indirect gain by the players that opposed me. Perhaps you should take the case against the EDC and learn something worth championing. I choose not to fight it out in the media because our country provides a far better medium for such matters. I would expect you to understand that professionalism and protocol.

As I stumbled across this scandalous blog… I thought it only fitting to point out just how misinformed you and the lynch mob mentality are of Eastern Indiana and your yellow journalistic trash rag the Pal-Item. After more than a year they still have not admitted that they were totally wrong on their baseless allegations. They forced the EDC through brow beating them to spend an incredible amount of your tax payer money on not one but two full audits of the EDC books. Yet not one story on the fact that those audits came back 100% in the black with no discrepancies or recommendations by the accounting firms for any corrective actions. A pretty good report considering previously to Holbrook that was not the case. His work was exemplary AND his books without flaw. Yet you and your likes ran him out of town before he could do what he came to do…fix your local economy. Now your economy is suffering the consequences of being led by ignorant, self-serving political driven spineless leadership. Your community and your yellow rag newspaper owe me and my family a serious apology…not that they even comprehend the dire situation they are in now with their economy. In the end you get what you deserve. When you harm people unduly the balance quickly swings back to the side of the just and takes its’ toll. Your toll as a community is now being called due. Good luck you will really need it with the state of your county being what it is now.
