We need help. Yesterday, 02/09/07 issue of the Lafayette, Indiana Journal & Courier reported that North Fork Farms, LLC had made application to the IDEM for 2 CAFO hog installations very close(approx. 2 miles) to the town of Boswell, Indiana. There are 2 more smaller CAFO hog operations planned to be built 4-5 miles south of Boswell. We live one mile south of Boswell and the family farm is located 4 miles to the southeast. We were and are quite alarmed as I have been following the problems going in in North Carolina. We need help to get started. The CAFO people have their high powered, polically connected advocate, mainly Mr. Mike Veenhuizen PhD, Owner and President of Lifestock Engineering Solutions(BS & MS Purdue, PhD Iowa State) but who can we employ, pro-bono or paid, to help us. The Permit Application for North Fork Farms, LLC was submitted 12/06. We think we have 90 days before they decide??? Any help would be so appreciated. -Annette Holdeman

[...] Kpaul over at the Muncie Free Press is getting into full swing in his coverage of CAFO’s in East Central Indiana. Applying his journalistic talents, he showed up at the recent Monroe County BZA meeting with audio and video recorders in hand. Today he posted some video clips of the discussion that resulted in the delay in the BZA’s decision on the 4,000 head hog CAFO that I discussed earlier this week (A CAFO Delayed, A CAFO Defeated?).
