Marshall County Opposition Forces Change of Plans

The pig farmer seeking to build a pig CAFO in Marshall County is changing his plans. He faced opposition from a neighbor, Jon Rettinger, who sued the county over issuance of building permits for the original location. Attorney Stephen Snyder represented Rettinger in the dispute:

Rettinger and his family live in the 6300 block of East 14th Road, in the vicinity of the intersection of Gumwood and 14th roads where Laidig had originally planned to place the swine operation. April hearings before the BZA were held over Rettinger’s contention that Booker had issued the initial two permits to Laidig in violation of the county’s zoning ordinances. The BZA found in Booker’s favor, prompting Rettinger to take his case to Marshall Circuit Court.

It was this dispute that caused Marshall County to form a committee to study changing the zoning code to handle CAFO construction in the county.
