No Threat?

Yesterday, the president of the Indiana Farm Bureau was quoted as saying that CAFO’s present “no threat” to Indiana’s environment. If that is true, then I wonder what need this program is seeking to address:

Owners of confined feeding operations with immediate environmental emergencies can now turn to a USDA conservation program for financial assistance to correct the situation. The Natural Resources Conservation Service has allocated a portion of the funding from this year‘s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to deal with failures and impending failures in manure storage facilities, mass animal mortality situations.

The EQIP is also encouraging operators to develop Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP’s).

Does anybody know the e-mails of the president of Indiana Farm Bureau, I can hardly wait until I can tell him that I am Canceling my 22,000.00 dollar a year insurance policies with Farm Bureau because of his stand on these cafo’s. If you have Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance I suggest that you do the same. Maybe they will not have quite so much money to put the screws to us if we all cancel our policies.

    Hi Scott,

    His e-mail is dvillwock@infarmbureau.org

We did the same thing. Why would we remain a member of an organization that is not supporting or representing us? We wrote letters to the local and the state Farm Bureau about why we were canceling all of our insurance policies and our membership.

There is a group of farmers that are meeting with Don Villwock on Dec. 21 to deliver petitions with over 5,000 signatures and 20 different counties expressing the same message.
We have a 1/2 hour appointment to express our complaints in person. We are not “outsiders” nor are we “ignorant” and we would like him to experience this in person.

I urge you to e-mail him tonight as it would be very timely and make both our impacts greater. Thanks for taking time to make this comment.

    Julie,
Thank you for your rsponse to my blog. It is good to know that other people in the state are fighting these cafo’s from over populating our state. I have e-mailed Villwock as to my stand on his statements as well. If you would please let me know where they stand on the issue after the meeting on the 21st. I am just now getting involved with FBI. and if they do not change there stand on the issues before us I can probably get at least another 5,000 people from the Northern part of the state to cancel there insurance with them also.
