Agriculture is under attack

At least according to a Delaware County Commissioner:

Delaware County’s agricultural community on Thursday night condemned a proposal to amend the county zoning ordinance to regulate concentrated animal feeding operations.

Farmer Joe Russell, a member of county council, said the draft amendment would make Delaware County the most restrictive county in the state for CAFOs.

Pal-Item Story: Delaware Co. farm group condemns CAFO restrictions.

Not much coverage on what is actually in the proposed regulations. Just lots of dire predictions. At one point someone says the ordinance would limit children’s 4H projects. I cannot imagine that an ordinance aimed at industrial agriculture would be so poorly written that it would cover 4H projects, but who knows.

Ah, It’s been a while since I’ve heard the4-H argument. I figured that one was so outlandish that even those folks that support corporate torture Ag and the ill health effects that go along with it like our daughters- the same ones they’re so worried about being denied the 4-H experience starting their puberty prematurely and early menses as young as 9 or 10yo because of the tons of synthetic growth hormones routinely shoved down the animals throat at CAFOs.Add that to the degradation of water and air quality and there isn’t one single benefit to CAFOs,unless you define an inferior unhealthy product that may not cost very much money but is dearly expensive in environmental terms a benefit.
